
NATIONAL: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the demise of Veteran Journalist and renowned Broadcaster Sir Mark Tully. The Calcutta (Kolkata) born journalist passed away at a hospital in New Delhi Sunday.
He was 90.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said that Sir Mark Tully’s deep connection with India and its people was vividly reflected in his works. He noted that Sir Mark’s reporting and insights have left an enduring mark on public discourse.
Born in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1935, Tully served as the BBC's New Delhi bureau chief for over two decades and was one of most respected foreign media journalist in India. After retirement from BBC he lived on in Delhi with regular visits in Kolkata, his birthplace.
Tully authored several influential books about India, exploring its politics, spirituality and society. Among his most celebrated works are "No Full Stops in India" and "India in Slow Motion," both of which offer nuanced reflections on the complexities and contradictions that shape the country.
