REGIONAL: In a collaborative outreach initiative, the National Commission for Women and the Nagaland State Commission for Women are organising 'Mahila Jan Sunwai' (Public Hearings) from March 9 to 13 to commemorate International Women's Day. This nationwide public hearing drive aims to provide women with a platform to voice grievances related to domestic violence, workplace harassment, maternity benefits and other forms of gender-based injustice facilitating direct institutional support.

A core aspect of the initiative is timely grievance redressal, with dedicated benches consisting of Chairpersons and Members from the Nagaland State Commission for Women, District Administration, District Legal Services Authority (DALSA), police, legal experts and protection officers present to hear complaints. They will ensure immediate processing, registration, legal guidance and follow-up on serious cases.

By bringing grievance redressal mechanisms to grassroots levels, the initiative aims to address institutional gaps and provide prompt support, particularly for women in rural areas, thereby enhancing access to justice. The programme reflects a commitment to move beyond symbolic gestures towards delivering tangible justice and empowerment.

Public hearings will occur in various locations across the districts on specified dates, culminating in efforts to create safer environments for women throughout India.
