REGIONAL: Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio met with a media delegation from Gujarat Wednesday in Kohima. During this interaction, Rio discussed multiple facets of Nagaland, including its history, struggles, economic challenges, social issues and the unique constitutional provisions that protect the state's interests under Article 371(A).
Dr Rio pointed out the difficulties in attracting investors and establishing manufacturing industries, stressing that due to Article 371(A) land and resources in Nagaland are owned by the local populace. This law restricts outsiders from owning land except on a lease basis for specific investments. He highlighted that while Nagaland's natural resources remain protected due to its constitutional status, the state's educated and talented youth, empowered by Christianity and education, are working globally, contributing to various sectors.
Moreover, he referenced a project supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and noted the positive relationships cultivated between Nagaland and Japan in recent years. The media delegation's visit aimed to present the developmental initiatives occurring in Nagaland alongside the state's rich cultural heritage.
Dr Rio expressed hope that this interaction would enhance mutual understanding and strengthen ties between Nagaland and Gujarat.
