BSF IG holds courtesy meeting with the Bangladesh diplomat
The force foiled a major infiltration bid in north Tripura Thursday

AGARTALA, August 01, 2024: A courtesy meeting was held between Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, IG BSF and Arif Mohammad Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Tripura at Frontier HQ BSF in Agartala. The meeting discussed issues such as illegal migration, trans-border smuggling and developmental works along the border.
IG BSF informed the Assistant High Commissioner about the status of illegal infiltration and the involvement of Bangladesh nationals in smuggling activities. The meeting was conducted in a cordial atmosphere, committing to maintaining friendly relations between the two countries and maintaining peace and tranquility on the border.
Meanwhile BSF has claimed to have foiled a major infiltration bid from Bangladesh Thursday. It said a major infiltration attempt was reported in Kailashahar in north Tripura leading to a special operation.
A border patrolling squad of the BSF attempted to deter the infiltrators, but they attacked them with sharp-edged weapons and stones. BSF responded by firing two rounds from 5.56 Insas and additional troops rushed to the site.
The infiltrators escaped back to Bangladesh territory indicating that timely action by BSF could prevent a major infiltration attempt.
