Yet again: Drone attack on a cargo ship in Gulf of Aden
Indian Navy intercepted vessel on Jan 18 to provide assistance

GLOBAL, January 18 2024: The INS Visakhapatnam, on a mission in the Gulf of Aden to conduct anti-piracy operations, promptly responded to a distress call from the Marshall Island flagged MV Genco Picardy after it was attacked by a drone at 11.11 pm on January 17. The INS Visakhapatnam, which was conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden, acknowledged the distress call and intercepted the vessel on January 18 to provide assistance.
The MV Genco Picardy, with a crew of 22 (including nine Indians), reported no casualties and that the fire was under control. In the early hours of January 18, Indian Naval EOD specialists from the INS Visakhapatnam boarded the vessel to inspect the damaged area.
After a thorough inspection, the EOD specialists declared the area safe for further transit. The vessel is now proceeding to its next port of call.
