AGARTALA, March 20, 2025: Government officials informed the general public that an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) has been reported at a Piggery Farm in Yachem Village of Nagaland. Laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of the viral disease that has resulted in the death of several pigs.

To prevent the further spread of ASF, the following containment zones have been established –

i. Infected Zone: 1 km radius from the affected farm.

i. Surveillance Zone: 10 km radius from the infected zone.

In the interest of public health and animal safety, the following restrictions are imposed until further notice - Ban on Movement & Trade; No export, import, or transportation of pigs, piglets, pork, or pig-derived products from the infected Zone.

Reporting & Cooperation - Strict monitoring of pig farms, markets, and slaughterhouses within the surveillance zone, and any unusual pig deaths or suspected ASF cases must be reported to the local veterinary Department immediately.

The cooperation of the public, farmers and meat vendors is crucial in controlling the outbreak. A government advisory warned that failure to comply with these measures may result in legal action under relevant laws.
