Union Railways Minister interacts with media on Rail Budget 2025-26
Rail Budget has allocated Rs 10,440 crore for the North East region

NATIONAL, February 03, 2025: Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw interacted with the media persons of the states in northeast India and Jammu & Kashmir on the Rail Budget 2025-26 of the Union Government through video conferencing Monday.
Vaishnaw in his remarks said the Rail Budget, has allocated Rs 10,440 crore for the North East region, which is five times higher than what was earmarked during the period of the UPA government. He said the enhanced budget will tremendously improve the railway network and services in the NE region.
The Union Minister informed that work is in full swing to upgrade the railway services in all the states of the North East, even though the task was a difficult one due to the region’s terrain and topography. He enumerated that in most of the NE states, besides the construction of normal rail lines, the onus is largely on a tunnel-bridge basis.
To queries from the mediapersons, Ashwini Vaisnaw said construction of the Mizoram Railway station was progressing well and survey is on for the Rangpo-Gangtok rail line. The construction of the Barauni-Shillong rail line was facing some opposition, but the matter is being sorted out. Likewise, work is on at a fast pace in all the other states of the North East.
The Railway Minister further informed us that Rs 844 crore was allocated to Jammu & Kashmir in the Rail Budget and electrification of trains has been achieved 100 percent. He further said two Bande Bharat trains were already running from J & K to Delhi.
