Union government mulls to amend the Advocates Act 1961

NATIONAL, February 14, 2025: The Union government is proposing to amend the Advocates Act 1961 to strengthen the legal framework and make the profession fair, transparent and accessible. The Department of Legal Affairs is proposing amendments to align the legal profession and education with global best practices.
Government officials said the reforms aim to improve legal education, equip lawyers for a rapidly changing world, and raise professional standards. The ultimate goal is to ensure the legal profession contributes to a just and equitable society and developed nation.
The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and a tabular statement have already been prepared, and the Department of Legal Affairs Department invited public comments on the draft amendments. The draft Bill and tabular statement was published at https://legalaffairs.gov.in/
