UNICEF sponsored one-day media workshop held
Discussions highlighted the importance of raising awareness

AGARTALA, December 18, 2024: A one-day media workshop with the theme of "Promoting a Public Narrative on Increasing the Value of the Girl Child" was held in Agartala Wednesday. The workshop, jointly organised by UNICEF and the Centre for Development and Peace Studies, aimed to explore ways to prevent child marriage in society.
Attendees included Prof Dr Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice Chancellor of National Law University Tripura, Laxminarayan Nanda, UNICEF Child Protection Specialist, Wasbir Hussain, Chief Editor of North East Live, Syed Sajjad Ali, Vice President of Agartala Press Club and Executive Advisor of Tripura Journalists Union, Dr Debashree Debnath, Assistant Professor of National Law University Tripura, Pranab Sarkar, Chief Editor of Headlines Tripura National, experts from NHM, and journalists from different districts.
The discussions highlighted the importance of raising awareness and taking action to eliminate this issue from society. It was also emphasised that parents should be educated about the laws and regulations related to preventing child marriage.
The role of the news media in addressing this issue was also recognised.
