Two NLFT extremists surrender in north Tripura

AGARTALA, April 15 2021: Two NLFT extremists including dreaded Uttam Kishore Jamatia surrendered before senior police officials in north Tripura Thursday. The other surrendered militant has been named as Joseph Jamatia.
Uttam Kishore Jamatia who hailed from Kupilong in south Tripura was one of old guards in the NLFT (Biswamohan). He joined the outfit in 2001 and had undergone arms training at Hongkong camp in Chittagong Hill Tracks of Bangladesh before getting deployed as a member of a ‘hit squad’ in the state.
He was involved in a deadly attack on CRPF patrol at Chechingcharra that left 17 security personnel killed. It was one of most heinous ambushes on security forces in history of insurgency in Tripura.
He was also involved in numerous incidents of attacks on troops and targeted kidnapping of wealthy people to hold them captive to ransom.
The other militant Joseph Jamatia was a self-styled sergeant in the NLFT (Umthai). He was maintaining a link between NSCN (IM) and his group.
Jamatia was wanted mainly on extortion charges.
The surrendered extremists deposited three foreign made pistols and loaded magazines.
