AGARTALA, September 06, 2025: Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the state government has an ambitious plan to shift towards solar energy to meet future electricity demands as natural gas reserves continue to deplete. He was speaking at an awareness camp on the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana at Kailasahar in Unakoti district.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which started on February 13, 2024, aims to reduce bills and provide income for everyone. The scheme allows solar plates to be installed on rooftops, plain land and almost everywhere with a target of installing solar panels in 50,000 households to generate 150 Mega Watt.
The Minister asserted that the state and central government are working on solar power to prepare for the future, as gas reserves are slowly decreasing. The scheme is being promoted through awareness camps across the state, with a target of installing solar panels in 50,000 households.
