CM urged officers to continue their fight against drug peddling

AGARTALA, January 25, 2024: Tripura Police, which was originally raised as a small unit to combat crime in the erstwhile princely state, has now completed 150 years. Due to the increase in population and demand for its services, it has evolved into a large and powerful force.
From being led by a deputy superintendent of police, it now has a well-structured command system with numerous officers, with the Director General of Police at the helm. The Tripura Police now consists of multiple units and agencies.
Despite its shortcomings, it has become a formidable force in preventing and investigating crimes, protecting lives, gathering intelligence, regulating traffic and taking preventive measures. The work of this force has been crucial in Tripura, especially in dealing with ethnic tensions, insurgency and cross-border crimes.
The detection of foreigners in a state that shares international borders on three sides has been a challenge, and the police have been tasked with containing smuggling and drug trafficking.
The official celebration of 150 Glorious Years of the police took place on Thursday, with Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who is also the Home Minister, in attendance. During the event, Dr Saha emphasised the importance of maintaining a positive relationship between the police and the public, and urged officers to continue their fight against drug peddling.
He also commended the role of the Tripura Police in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities.
