AGARTALA, January 08 2021: Tripura government to toughen restrictions to contain spread of coronavirus amid spurt of pandemic across India. Though the state has not yet detected Omicron variant, the fear looms large.
State authorities are contemplating a number of new measures while re-imposing fine for not wearing facemask in public spaces. Several people were fined in Agartala Saturday and the measure will continue, officials said.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said set of new measures will be announced after discussion at the meeting of council of ministers. After examining recommendations of the Chief Secretary led meeting with senior officials of linked departments that was held here Saturday, he added.
State health department informed detection of 154 new Covid-19 cases in the state on Saturday. Samples of 4,160 people tested during the day.
