AGARTALA, August 03 2022: Tripura government has raised the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 5 percent for all ranks of public employees and the pensioners. Information Minister and cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Choudhury said the decision will benefit 1,04,683 regular employees and 80,855 people who have retired from services.
The increase, second during incumbent BJP led coalition government, has substantially narrowed the gap between state employees and that of the central government. Forums owing allegiance to both ruling and opposition parties have long been demanding the hike, and expressed satisfaction following latest announcement.
DA of employees in government corporations and undertakings has also been revised under relevant slaps.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said the increase will cost the exchequer an extra Rs 523 crore annually. The employees will receive the higher DA in September starting in August 2022, he said.
Former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb hailed the decision. He tweeted best wishes to all the employees and hoped ‘together let's work for the development of Tripura’.
Ruling BJP claimed an important assurance of its election pledge has been fulfilled.
