AGARTALA, February 11, 2024: Tripura native and India's gymnastics sensation, Dipa Karmakar, is making her comeback on the world stage as she prepares to compete in a global championship in Cairo, Egypt next week. This marks the end of her five-year hiatus from the international scene.
Karmakar will be representing India at the World Gymnastics Championships from February 15-18 and will be flying to Cairo on February 12. Despite facing tough luck at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where she narrowly missed out on a medal and placed fourth, Karmakar's performance brought fame and glory to her country.
She was the first Indian gymnast to achieve such a high ranking in an international event. Both Karmakar and her coach are confident in her ability to win, but there is concern over an injury to her right leg.
However, she has fully recovered from the surgery she underwent to address the injury. Karmakar was previously embroiled in a doping controversy, resulting in a three-year suspension.
She has worked diligently to clear her name from allegations.
