Indian Army hosts the Army Sports Conclave 2025

NATIONAL, November 04, 2025: The Indian Army hosted the Army Sports Conclave 2025 at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi Tuesday to display its dedication to nurturing champions in line with India's Olympic Mission 2036. Lt Gen Ajay Ramdev initiated the event praising the Army's commitment to progressive, scientifically informed training, particularly for para-athletes.
Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary (Sports), highlighted the Army's role in encouraging athletes and promoting government initiatives like the Target Olympic Podium Scheme and Khelo India centres advocating for unified efforts to fulfill the nation's Olympic ambitions.
Lt Gen Rakesh Kapoor accentuated the Army's values of discipline and teamwork calling for collaboration with various sectors to sustain excellence in sports.
The Conclave focused on 'Institutional Synergy' and 'Athlete 360' promoting coordinated stakeholder collaboration and comprehensive athlete development. Key discussions included aligning national sports policies with technological innovations for Olympic success.
An interactive 'Fire Side Chat' featured athletes and officials discussing strategies for achieving Olympic goals.
During the event, Gen Upendra Dwivedi honored three distinguished athletes with the Army Sports Lifetime Achievement Award: Col Balbir Singh Kullar (1968 Hockey Bronze Medalist), Murlikant Petkar (1972 Paralympic Gold Medalist) and Hony Capt Vijay Kumar Sharma (2012 Shooting Silver Medalist), celebrating their contributions to Indian sports and embodying the Army's ethos of 'Service Before Self.'
The conclave also reinforced alignment with the Army Roadmap 2032, the National Sports Development Bill and Khel Niti 2025 paving the way for significant advancements in India's sports ecosystem. It concluded with a call to action for partnerships and investments focused on athlete development, aspiring to elevate India to a global sporting powerhouse by 2036.
