Tourism Ministers grace conference for enhancing tourism

REGIONAL, September 02, 2024: The Tourism Ministers Conference held in Shillong Sunday was a significant step towards enhancing the tourism sector in the Eastern and Northeastern states including the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The conference aimed to share insights and strategies on how to improve tourism, bringing together delegates and representatives from several Eastern states, the Northeast and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat who presided over the programme expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm of the states and praised the competitive spirit between them.
Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh highlighted Meghalaya's breathtaking landscapes and the mysterious Mawmluh cave, which attract adventure enthusiasts worldwide. He also emphasised the importance of community involvement in tourism efforts.
The Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) plays a key role in driving the tourism sector in Meghalaya, nurturing a creative economy, empowering artists, and promoting cultural vibrancy. The conference saw the interaction of tourism ministers from the North-Eastern and Eastern states with Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Speakers highlighted their respective states' strengths in various categories, such as adventure, spirituality, sight-seeing, culture, history and festivals. The states also sought the Union Minister's intervention in areas they observed as stumbling blocks for tourism promotion to which the Minister responded with feedback and assurance of looking into the matter.
The conference demonstrated the importance of states collaborating and cooperating in developing the tourism industry, as each state has something positive to offer towards creating dynamic tourism for development initiatives.
