GLOBAL, September 23, 2024: Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon have killed at least 182 people and injured 720 others on Monday making it the deadliest attack since the Gaza war on October 7. The Israeli military reported hitting approximately 300 targets, including Hezbollah weapons sites, in residential areas of towns in the south and the eastern Bekaa Valley.
One strike even reached as far as Byblos in central Lebanon, hitting a wooded area. This latest escalation of violence was triggered by Hezbollah's launch of dozens of rockets at Israel's Ramat David Airbase in retaliation to the Israeli attacks.
The United Nations has warned of an "imminent catastrophe" if the tit-for-tat violence continues.
