AGARTALA, July 27, 2025: Several BJP workers were injured at Asharambari in Tripura's Khowai district after being attacked while listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' radio programme Sunday. The attackers, blamed on being TIPRA Motha cadres, vandalised three vehicles and six motorcycles belonging to the BJP members.
Some of the injured were shifted to GBP Hospital in Agartala. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha visited them in the evening and inquired about their treatment.
TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and local MLA Animesh Debbarma, who is also a minister in the state cabinet, denied the party’s involvement. They blamed vested interest elements for fanning trouble and creating unease in the incumbent BJP-led coalition government.
The BJP alleged that members of the Tipra Motha, its ally, were behind the attack.
BJP’s Janajati Morcha general secretary, Bipin Debbarma, alleged that Tipra Motha's youth wing was behind the attack. The Chief Minister said he “strongly condemns the violent and undemocratic attack by TIPRA Motha party workers.”
Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury of the CPI(M) described the incident as "barbaric” and demanded punishment against the accused.
