Senco Gold MD Shaankar Sen dies aged 63

KOLKATA, July 28 2020 (HS): Shaankar Sen, the Chairman and Managing Director of Senco Gold and Diamonds,one of the largest chain of jewellers in India,passed away in a private hospital here after a brief illness Tueday.

He was 63.

Known for his amiable and gentle nature, Sen was looked at as a shining example of Bengali entrepreneurship and was instrumental in putting the brand Senco Gold and Diamonds on the National map.

From just three jewellery stores in Kolkata in early 1990s that he inherited from his father, Sen became the owner of more than 100 retail outlets in 14 states across the country to become the head of India's one of the largest gold and diamond jewellers.

As the news of his death spread, large number of his relatives, friends and well wishers rushed to the hospital to pay their respect and express their condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
