SHILLONG, May 30, 2024: After concerns were raised about the conduct of the CUET (UG) 2024 examination by NTA, a review meeting was held with NTA, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) officials, and the State Education Department, at the intervention of the Chief Minister. During the meeting, it was brought to the Chief Minister's attention that many students had not registered for the exam, some who had registered did not appear for it and others did not take all the required papers.
The Chief Minister was also informed about mismanagement at the NEHU Centre during the exam. As a result, the Chief Minister directed that the matter be taken up with the Ministry of Education to exempt students from taking the CUET (UG) 2024 for admission to NEHU-affiliated colleges in Meghalaya for the 2024-2025 academic sessions.
The Chief Minister then promptly raised the issue with the Union Minister of Education, and the UGC granted exemption from CUET (UG) 2024 for admission to NEHU-affiliated colleges for the 2024-2025 academic session.
The State Government clarifyed that CUET scores will not be required for admission to NEHU-affiliated colleges in Meghalaya for the 2024-2025 academic session, and admissions will be based on students' performance in the Board examination, as has been done in previous years.
