GPS anklets as a measure to monitor drug traffickers in Punjab

NATIONAL, June 01, 2025: Police authorities in Punjab are considering using GPS anklets to monitor the activities of large drug smugglers released on bail. State Police Chief Gaurav Yadav said the GPS system would require cooperation from the village elders and Panchayat.
The police are examining the GPS proposal from a legal standpoint and will make a decision accordingly, he stated.
Meanwhile the 'Yudh Nasheyan Virudh' campaign in the state has resulted in over 14,700 arrests and a significant seizure of narcotics since March 1, 2025.
