A significant growth of 2.1 percent compared to 839000 tones

KOTTAYAM, June 21, 2024: India's natural rubber (NR) production during 2023-24 was 857000 tones, marking a significant growth of 2.1 per cent compared to 839000 tones in 2022-23. This positive trend was mirrored in the domestic consumption of NR, which saw a robust growth of 4.9 per cent, reaching 1416000 tonnes compared to 1350000 tonnes in the previous year. The future looks promising, with the projected production and consumption of NR for 2024-25 at 875000 tones and 1425000 tones respectively. These encouraging figures were shared at the 187th Board meeting of the Rubber Board held at Kottayam, where Dr Sawar Dhanania, Chairman of the Rubber Board, presided over the meeting and M Vasanthagesan IRS, Executive Director of the Rubber Board, presented the report on the current status of the Indian NR sector.
According to the data published by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics, the cumulative import and export of NR during 2023-24 were 492682 tones and 4199 tones, respectively. The total stock of NR held with growers, processors, traders, and manufacturers at the end of March 2024 is estimated at 372085 tones as against 442602 tones in March 2023. In 2023-24, the country imported 169820 tons of compounded rubber. The export of compounded rubber during the same period was 18069 tonnes.
Under the ‘INROAD’ project, a collaborative effort between the Rubber Board and four major tyre companies represented by the Automotive Tyre Manufactures Association (ATMA), rubber planting has been successfully managed in 69307 hectares. As a testament to the industry's commitment to the sustainability of NR sector, the ATMA have committed a significant contribution of Rs.1000 crores for rubber plantation development in two lakh hectares in the north-east within five years.

Krishnakumar, Biplav Kar, MP Rajeevan, Kesava Bhat Muliya, Siju T (Rubber Production Commissioner are the members attended in the Rubber Board meeting. The Horticulture Commissioner of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare participated in the meeting online. Binoi K Kurian (Secretary-in-charge) and other officers of the Board also attended the meeting.
