Police probe forgery charges against ex PCC(I) Chief

AGARTALA, April 05, 2020: Tripura police Sunday registered a case against former MLA and PCC(I) President Gopal Chandra Roy after a FIR was lodged against him for his unauthorised use of national emblem in his letter head.

Advocate Arabinda Deb in his complaint lodged with the New Capital Complex (NCC) police station here submitted that the opposition leader has been making false accusations against Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb through written statements in his letterhead which contains the ‘Ashok Stambh’.

The complainant further stated that Gopal Chandra Roy is not authorised to use national emblem and its use amounted to committing a forgery. He also termed allegations against Chief Minister as criminal conspiracy to tarnish latter’s image and reputation in public.

Police registered FIR on basis of complaint of Advocate Arabinda Deb under IPC sections 469 and 120B, and launched probe. Sub Inspector Lanrinpuia Darlong has been made Investigation Officer in the case.

The FIR followed submission of a complaint from Gopal Chandra Roy in same police station in which he alleged that Chief Minister was accessarating number of Covid-19 cases in Manipur and Assam that according to him created panic in both the states.

He had written the complaint in the letterhead containing the national emblem imprinted on the top.
