PM makes aerial survey of flood affected districts in Punjab

NATIONAL, September 09, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday visited Punjab to assess the flood situation and damage caused by cloudbursts and heavy rain. He conducted an aerial survey and held an official review meeting in Gurdaspur.
Modi announced a financial assistance of Rs 1600 crore for Punjab in addition to the existing Rs 12,000 crore. He asserted the need for a multi-dimensional approach to help the entire region and its people recover, including rebuilding homes, restoring national highways, reconstructing schools, providing relief through the PMNRF and distributing mini kits for livestock.
Extra assistance will be provided to farmers who currently lack power connections and support for refurbishing bores will be extended under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana on project mode. The State Government will facilitate solar panels and micro irrigation for diesel bore pumps under Per Drop More Crop guidelines, he added.
The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin will provide financial assistance for the reconstruction of houses in rural areas. Government schools damaged in the floods will be financially supported under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. The Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari program will undertake extensive construction of recharge structures for water harvesting in Punjab.
The Union Government has sent Inter-Ministerial Central teams to assess the extent of damage and consider further assistance. Modi expressed condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured.
