PM assures support for rain, mudslide hit Darjeeling region
West Bengal CM reached affected north Bengal, rescue operations intensified

NATIONAL, October 06, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over the situation in Darjeeling and adjoining areas which have been severely affected by heavy rainfall and landslides.
Some 20 people have died in one of the worst calamities in the history of West Bengal. Around 500 tourists were safely evacuated from affected places.
The Prime Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to provide all possible assistance to the affected regions and emphasized coordinated efforts between central and state government agencies to mitigate the impact of the natural calamity.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and senior state officials left Kolkata on Monday to supervise rescue and relief operations in Darjeeling and adjoining areas owing to heavy rains and mudslides. NDRF, SDRF, security forces and other agencies have been pressed into service.
