Phase II of IGDC Project launched in Tripura

AGARTALA, November 13 2020: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb Friday inaugurated the Indo-German Development Cooperation (IGDC) Project-II at a programme in Ambassa of Dhalai district. Rs 280 crore worth project has multiple segments to work with forest, livelihood, ecology and environment.
Speaking at the function Chief Minister said that main focuses of the project is to uplift socio-economic life of indigenous population and protect nature.
Chief Minister also said his government has attached importance to develop Dhalai – a tribal infested district. The government has endeavoured to establish a medical college in the district.
The Phase II project will cover 191 villages of 11 Rural Development Blocks. It has been given title 'Climate Resilience of Forest Ecosystems, Biodiversity & Adaptive Capacities of Forest Dependent Communities in Tripura'.
It will benefit over 1,30,000 climate-vulnerable people in terms of reduced climate vulnerability, enhanced access to ecosystem services, diversified livelihood opportunities and greater household income.
Apart from this 4 lakh people will also receive circumlocutory benefits.
Phase I of the IGDC Project was launched in Tripura in 2009. Germany sanctioned the Phase II in June last.
