Parliament logjam: Opposition parties agree on discussion
On Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in both houses

NATIONAL, July 25, 2025: Opposition parties Friday agreed to hold a special discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, potentially boosting normalcy in Parliament after the first week's proceedings. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are expected to speak.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely be using the debate to counter the government's claims of intelligence failures and US President Donald Trump's claims of mediating a 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju blamed the Opposition for the washout of the first week of the Monsoon session, accusing it of not allowing Parliament to function. The government will take a call on other matters gradually, following the rules guiding discussion in Parliament.
The Opposition has alleged that the drive is aimed at helping the BJP-led alliance, which is in power in poll-bound Bihar. Both Houses will hold 16-hour discussions on the twin issues, which have dominated public attention in India and drawn concerns from world capitals.
