Pahalgam: PM chairs meeting with defence establishment

“Affirmed national resolve to deal a crushing blow to terrorism”

NATIONAL, April 29, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has Tuesday stated that the armed forces have "complete operational freedom" to decide on the mode, targets and timing of India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack, national media reported.

During a meeting with the defence minister Rajnath Singh and defence establishment, Modi “affirmed the national resolve to deal a crushing blow to terrorism and expressed confidence in the professional abilities of the armed forces”.

The meeting was held amid India weighing its options for countermeasures following the Pahalgam attack, which left at least 26 civilians dead, mainly tourists. Modi has vowed to pursue the terrorists behind the attack and their patrons, referencing Pakistan's history of sponsoring terror strikes in India.

The attack has sparked widespread outrage and a demand for retaliatory action against the perpetrators and their handlers.
