Festival will showcase 224 films from 63 countries across 26 screens

REGIONAL, October 08, 2024: The participants from Nagaland arrived in Busan to attend the Busan International Film Festival. The 29th edition of the festival, which is the largest cinematic event in Asia, began on October 2nd with an opening ceremony.
This year's festival will showcase 224 films from 63 countries across 26 screens in five different theatres: CGV Centum City, Lotte Cinema Centum City, Mega box Busan Theatre, and the Theatre of the Korean Film Council. The opening film, "Uprising," is a historical epic produced by Netflix and directed by Kim Sang-man, with screenplay assistance from Park Chan-wook. This marks the first time that a film from an over-the-top platform has opened the festival.
Among the special guests at this year's festival is Kiyoshi Kurosawa, who has been named the Asian Filmmaker of the Year and will present his works "Serpent's Path" and "Cloud," both released this year; Miguel Gomes, director of "Joyful Melancholy"; and Ann Hui, a prominent figure in the new wave of Hong Kong directors. Other events at the festival include "open talks" with directors and cast members of selected films, as well as "outdoor stage greetings."
The festival will conclude on October 11 with the closing film, "Spirit World." The contingent from the National Film Development Corporation, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, includes two filmmakers from each of the North Eastern states. Representing Nagaland at the festival are Kekhriezhazo Miachieo and Yapangnaro Longkumer.
Miachieo is an award-winning photojournalist and documentary filmmaker based in Kohima, whose work focuses on human interest stories. He has previously worked with Hindustan Times and India Today in New Delhi, and has contributed to international media outlets.
Longkumer, a documentary filmmaker from Nagaland, completed her Masters at Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and worked as a cinematographer at NDTV. She has since made over 30 documentaries and PSA's, some of which have been featured in film festivals in India and abroad.
She was also a jury member at the Mumbai International Film Festival (Eastern zone).
