NATIONAL, February 07, 2024: Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, stated that the proposed Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), to be developed by ISRO, is currently in the conceptualization phase. This involves studying the overall architecture, number and type of modules, and docking ports.
In a response during the ongoing session of parliament on Wednesday, Dr Jitendra Singh mentioned that ISRO is working towards setting up the space station by 2035 and is currently focusing on the overall configuration of BAS.
The station will be assembled in phases, and a prospective roadmap is being developed for the realization of different modules and their respective launches.
The Minister also stated that a roadmap is being conceptualized for India's future moon exploration missions, which includes feasibility studies for robotic exploration through orbiters, landers, and rovers, as well as lunar sample collection and return.
This will eventually lead to a human landing on the Moon. The allocation of funds for the space station will be requested once the feasibility studies are completed and the proposal is presented for formal government approval at an appropriate stage.
