NATIONAL, July 16, 2024: The Centre has requested state governments to not designate police stations and their control areas for witness examinations. In a letter to State Chief Secretaries and UTs, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has urged them to identify a designated location for such examinations under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
The three new criminal laws - Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam – came into effect on the 1st of this month replacing the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
