NATIONAL: The Defence Ministry Tuesday signed a significant contract worth 1,950 crore rupees with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to procure two Mountain Radars for the Indian Air Force. This agreement, formalised in New Delhi, falls under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) initiative and reflects the government’s commitment to its Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India programs.
The Mountain Radars are a product of local expertise, having been designed and developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, which operates under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). BEL will be responsible for the manufacturing of these systems.
The acquisition of these radars is intended to enhance India's air defence capabilities, bolster national security and decrease reliance on foreign military equipment.
