SHILLONG, August 02 2022: Meghalaya government Tuesday banned sale of sharp cutting weapons in public spaces of state capital Shillong. It has enforced an order through the East Khasi Hills district to promulgate prohibition under section 144 of the CRPC.
Sale of sharp objects like Dao and Knife openly along the roadside in Police Bazar and Jail Road areas has been banned. “Sale of such objects may be done only inside the shops under closed display”, the order clarified.
The ban came into force with immediate effect and to continue till further order is issued.
Officials said the ban was necessary after finding vendors are selling sharp cutting objects along the roadside in Shillong. Such open sale and display of sharp tools could pose a threat as the miscreants could use them against residents, businessmen and crowds.
