AGARTALA, April 09, 2025: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha stated that his government is committed to preserving old cultural traditions such as Putul Khela, Jatra and Natak. He made these remarks while inaugurating the state level Jatra Utsav at Vivekananda Shardha-Satabarshiki Bhavan in Dharmanagar, North Tripura District, Wednesday.
During his tour of the district, he also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 45 development projects. During discussions about this matter, we realised that many of our old traditions are slowly disappearing. In order to revive them, we organized a Kirtan Sanmelan and now, we have decided to hold the Jatra Utsav. "Speaker Biswabandhu Sen planned to organise it in Dharmanagar, so we made the right decision by holding it here," he said.
He also mentioned that the current incumbent government is focused on overall development, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision.
"PM Modi is synonymous with development and our state government is committed to it. The previous 35-year rule left the environment and the state in a polluted state, and now they are struggling with NOTA. Dharmanagar holds a special place in our hearts. Jatra means a good journey and I would like to thank the ICA Department for their efforts in preserving our old traditions, culture, and heritage. Recently, we also organized Basanta Utsav, but due to technology, people are forgetting about old cultural practices like Putul Khela, Jatra, and Natak. "
This should not happen, and we are determined to preserve them. "Unfortunately, the previous government did not prioritise this," he added. Dr Saha also shared his college days' memories when he participated in a drama that won an award.
