Police said slight force was used to restore peace and order

REGIONAL, December 31, 2024: A mob led by Kuki-Zo women Tuesday clashed with security forces in Manipur's Kangpokpi district causing tensions in the ethnically strife-ridden state. The incident occurred at Uyokching near Thamnapokpi, where the mob attempted to disrupt the deployment of a combined Army, Border Security Force and Central Reserve Police Force.
The joint forces dispersed the crowd with slight use of force and the situation is now peaceful and under control, Manipur police officials said. Locals claimed several people were injured in the action in Saibol village in Twiching, where local women protested the 'forceful occupation' of community bunkers by security personnel.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) protested the incidents and blocked National Highway 2, a critical road connecting the region to the rest of the country, for an indefinite period. The organisation is demanding the withdrawal of central forces.
