AGARTALA, December 01 2023: Bangladesh Election Commission Friday took a decision in line with its counterpart in India to reshuffle the police organisation. It issued a direction to transfer station head officer or the OC of the police stations who have been in the same place for more than six months.
Parliamentary election in Bangladesh is slated for January 7 2024.
The commission has in a letter communicated its direction to the home ministry to transfer listed OCs by December 5. The letter also demanded action against police officers facing complaints.
The move is to end influence of local politicians on the police in elections which is boycotted by major opposition parties mainly the BNP. Last date for filing of nomination expired yesterday and it is now confirmed that the ruling Awami League and its proxies are in the fray.
The BNP and likes are demanding installation of a neutral government to oversee elections. It blamed ruling party of influencing results through rigging and manipulations.
