India snaps transshipment facility for Bangladesh
Bangladesh using Indian ports, airports to send its exports

GLOBAL, April 09, 2025: In a serious development, India has withdrawn the transshipment facility it extended to Bangladesh for exports to the Middle East, Europe and other countries through its ports and airports due to increasing strain in bilateral ties.
The move came after interim government head Muhammad Yunus made a controversial statement in China, claiming India's northeastern states, which share a nearly 1,600-km border with Bangladesh, are "landlocked" and have no way to reach the ocean except through his country.
India has exempted Bangladeshi exports to Nepal and Bhutan. As such, trade facilitation is mandatory for landlocked countries under the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) withdrew the facility with effect from April 8.
Bangladesh has been using several Indian ports and airports, including the Delhi airport, to send its exports to the Middle East, Europe and many other countries.
