NATIONAL, February 09, 2025: India and Bangladesh have agreed to construct a 3232.218 km fence along their 4096.7 km border. This fence is seen as a crucial security measure to prevent cross-border criminal activities, smuggling, and trafficking, according to the officials.
The Indian government has assured Bangladesh that it will adhere to all protocols and agreements between the two countries, as well as those between the Border Security Force and Border Guard Bangladesh.
However, there are still 864.482 km of the border that remains unfenced, including a 174.514 km non-feasible gap. The completion of fencing projects has been hindered by challenges such as land acquisition, objections from the Border Guard Bangladesh, limited working seasons and issues related to landslides and marshy land, officials opined.
