AGARTALA, March 07, 2024: In the history of state cricket, a brilliant talent has emerged. Angel Pal, a 13-year-old girl, has achieved what no one else has in the history of Tripura cricket - scoring five centuries in one season. Now she will be playing for the Sadar women's cricket team to showcase her skill.
Angel, a right-handed batsman and a sixth-grade student at Udaipur English Medium School, has caught the attention of the State Cricket Association officials. Despite not being selected for the state team this year due to her young age, it is certain that she will secure a spot in the Tripura team in the near future.
Angel was born in NC Nagar, Belonia to Chandan and Alka Pal, who have been working in Udaipur since 2000. She developed an interest in cricket during the pandemic and has been regularly training under Shiv Shankar Debnath and Sujit Debnath in Udaipur.
Angel, who believes in hard work, has shown her potential by scoring a century against both girls and boys during the season. She played for the boys' team in the under-13 and under-15 cricket tournaments organised by the Udaipur Divisional Cricket Association, scoring a hundred in each.
She scored a century in the women's cricket tournament organised by the Sepahijala Play Centre and three centuries in the under-14 girls' cricket tournament organized by the Belonia Cricket Association, with scores of 177 and 174 runs in two matches respectively. This demonstrates her ability to play big innings.
Despite no female cricketer from the state being featured in the Women's IPL, there is hope that Angel will fulfill this dream. However, Angel remains focused on scoring more runs and continues to practice regularly with KB. Former cricketers of the state believe that if Sadar succeeds in women's cricket this year, there will be no looking back.
Angel's coach, Sivas Shankar, believes that she has all the qualities to play for the national team and efforts are being made to improve her batting skills. Angel's father, Chandan, is optimistic about his daughter's success.
