REGIONAL, June 24, 2025: Meghalaya Tuesday organised a special event titled "Grants-in-Aid for Team Preparation" to support the 39th National Games slated for 2027. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA) to bolster the state's sporting ecosystem through targeted schemes and support mechanisms aimed at motivating and empowering athletes.
The event, organised at the State Convention Center, Shillong, aims to build a robust infrastructure and create support systems for athletes. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma graced the occasion.
The ambitious initiative includes the construction of nearly 50 artificial turfs across the state and the development of synthetic track and field facilities. The government also plans to work closely with the Tourism Department to promote homestays and boutique hotels for hosting athletes, nurturing local entrepreneurship and boosting tourism infrastructure.
They are aimed at seeing the athletes and youth of Meghalaya win medals at the state, national and international levels.
