NATIONAL, November 27, 2024: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Wednesday urged the parliamentary standing committee to address the issue of enforcing stricter laws to regulate vulgar content on social media platforms. He stressed the need for more stringent laws to prevent the misuse of these platforms as previous editorial checks have proven ineffective.
Vaishnaw highlighted the importance of stricter laws in controlling the uncontrolled content on social media, which has become a platform for freedom of press. His statement was made during a debate in parliament on the current mechanisms in place to prevent the illegal telecast of vulgar and sexually explicit content on social media platforms.
He also suggested that the government should consider strengthening existing laws to prevent the misuse of these platforms.
