AGARTALA, March 27 2023: TIPRA Chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has unfolded a new drama after the Ministry of Home Affairs frustrated him by not appointing an interlocutor to discuss issues on party’s contentious demands. He has threatened to resume fast unto death if the appointment was not made by tomorrow.
Debbarman had earlier claimed to have received an assurance from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on appointment of the interlocutor by March 27. Shah reportedly made a call to him a day before election to the post of Tripura assembly Speaker.
The new opening of dialogue made TIPRA to abstain from participation in voting resulting easy win for the BJP candidate. All 13 MLAs of the regional party walked out from assembly without on a flimsy ground to skip process involving election of the Speaker.
TIPRA Chief now felt ditched over noncompliance of the assurance and rushed to New Delhi Monday evening. But finding no one in MHA ready to talk, he penned a late night statement to express his anguish.
He warned that he is ready to take any extreme step and will launch fast unto death stir in support party’s demands if the MHA does not intervene.
