AGARTALA, December 10 2023: Biplab Kumar Deb, former Tripura Chief Minister and MP, has called for the implementation of the latest Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Agartala MBB Airport to ensure smoother aircraft landings in adverse weather conditions. The state-of-the-art airport is under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), and the recent update to the ALS system is causing complications.
He made the demand at current session of the Rajya Sabha.
The ILS system is crucial for emergency landing guidance and directional guidance, and will play a special role in preventing aircraft landings from being disturbed by heavy fog during winter. The DGCA insists on streamlining the ILS service by granting permission soon.
The former Chief Minister also drew attention to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnab regarding the construction of overhead bridges in the ongoing railway construction process in the state.
Deb also responded to demand of Dr Sivadeshan, a left MP from Kerala, for abolition of the post of Governor from the country. He argued that the Governor's role in establishing close communication between the center and the state is undeniable, and that communists have set precedents for refusing to respect the Constitution. He cited the example of a former left chief minister, who argued that the communist constitution is more important to them than the Indian constitution.
