REGIONAL, November 10, 2024: The Nagaland government and the Army have made final preparations for the historic commemoration of Remembrance Day in Kohima, Nagaland, which is scheduled for Monday.
The ceremony will be held at the iconic Kohima War Cemetery, which is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. This cemetery holds great significance as it is the site of the Battle of Kohima, which took place 80 years ago during the final days of World War II.
The purpose of this programme is to honour and remember the fallen British and Indian defence officers and soldiers. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and British Deputy High Commissioner Dr Andrew Fleming will grace the occasion.
Interestingly, the cemetery was originally the lawn and Long Tennis playground of the official bungalow of the then Deputy Commissioner in British India.
