NATIONAL, October 16, 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a conference on 'Extradition of Fugitives: Challenges and Strategies' organised by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi Thursday. Shah asserted the need to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards those operating activities from beyond India's borders.
He voiced to bring all such criminals under the purview of Indian laws and create a robust mechanism for this purpose.
The conference, which includes provisions available under Interpol and three new criminal laws, aims to enable the presence of fugitive criminals before Indian courts and provides a roadmap for achieving this.
The Home Minister felt need for a structured approach to apprehend fugitive criminals, emphasizing the need to eliminate the assurance in their minds that the law cannot reach them and dismantle the ecosystem of legal, financial and political support.
Amit Shah also outlined the Indian extradition system's purpose and process, stating that it should have five objectives: ensuring the reach of justice beyond borders, strengthening national security by making the identification system state-of-the-art and precise, enhancing international credibility regarding law and judicial systems and protecting the economic system while involving other countries.
