NATIONAL, October 15, 2025: The Election Commission Wednesday directed law enforcement agencies to curb the use of money power, freebies, drugs, narcotics and liquor in the upcoming elections. The action comes in the wake of its declaration of the General Election schedule for Bihar and 8 other states on October 6, 2025.
It said expenditure observers have been deployed to monitor election expenses and flying squads, surveillance teams and video surveillance teams will monitor suspected money power or inducements. The Commission has activated the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) for real-time reporting of interceptions.
Since the announcement of elections, a total of Rs 33.97 crore worth of cash, liquor, drugs and freebies have been seized by different agencies. The Commission emphasised the importance of ensuring citizens are not inconvenienced or harassed during the enforcement of these directives.
