AGARTALA, June 08 2021: Former CPI(M) led left front Councillors handed a memorandum of demands to the Commissioner of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Tuesday. One of the major demands is continuation of allotment of 6143 permanent house structures under a central government scheme.
AMC recently served notice to the beneficiaries for allegedly not completing construction of the houses despite release of initial payments in compliance with basic agreement of the scheme. It sought reply from them by June 11 failing of which scheme will be cancelled and action will be initiated.
The Councillors appealed to the Commissioner to extend the deadline for one and half month owing to prevailing coronavirus pandemic.
Former Deputy Mayor of the AMC Samar Chakraborty, former Mayor-in-Council Phulan Bhattacharjee and Biswajit Deb, and some other Councillors made up the delegation. Samar Chakraborty said that all beneficiaries of the housing scheme come from poor section of society.
He proposed that the AMC officials should go for spot verification to ascertain implementation of the scheme by the beneficiaries.
