Earthquake devastation claims over 800 in Afghanistan
India pledges support, to send relief materials from Tuesday

GLOBAL, September 01, 2025: A massive rescue operation is underway in Afghanistan following a strong earthquake and multiple aftershocks that flattened homes in a remote mountainous region before dawn Monday killing over 800 people, according to Taliban government. The earthquake struck just before midnight shaking buildings in entire region.
Near the epicentre in the east of Afghanistan, around 800 people were killed and 2,500 injured in remote Kunar province alone. Another 12 people were killed and 255 injured in neighbouring Nangarhar province.
The majority of Afghans live in low-rise, mud-brick homes that are vulnerable to collapse.
India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar expressed condolences for the loss of lives and assured that further relief material will be sent from India starting tomorrow. He prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured due to the natural calamity and affirmed India's support for Afghanistan during this difficult time.
