Bangladesh President’s portrait removed from embassies abroad
Country’s foreign ministry silent over the latest development

GLOBAL, August 17, 2025: Portraits of Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin have been taken down from Bangladesh’s embassies worldwide although the foreign ministry did not provide a formal order or explanation. After the change of government on August 5, most embassies had removed the portraits of the President, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Those remaining were instructed to do the same, according to Bangladesh news media. The deposed Awami League government made displaying Bangabandhu's portrait mandated by the Constitution.
Bangladesh news media reported that the Advisors and government officials are tight lipped over latest development by the interim government.
